Pure Luck

Big hailstorm moved through last night - woke me up around 2:00 AM.  First thought: Oh no, my car's outside.

But it looks the trees it was parked under sheltered it from damage.  Sounds like some other friends weren't so lucky.

Guess I should buy a PowerBall ticket?

Ski-U-Mah!

Minnesota vs. USC today in college football.  Or, as the old "Mickey Mouse Club" would have called it: "Anything Can Happen Day".

'SC is favored by 11.  They could win by 40.  Or the Gophers could eke out a victory; USC has been lackluster so far this season.  But the Gophers just lost to... South Dakota?!??.

I have no idea.  Guess we'll find out at 2:30 this afternoon... see you there.

Yeah, baby!  And it couldn't happen against a better team.

Small Consolation

Even by Chicago Cubs historical standards [perhaps you've heard - no World Series titles since 1908?], this has been a VERY bad season.

The Cubs have not been above .500 all year, and haven't even been at .500 since May. The players have just been going through the motions for a couple of months now; the appointment of former 3B coach Mike Quade as interim manager has fired them up a bit, but they still have managed to spend the highest payroll in the league to fashion the third worst record.

But... the Cubs did accomplish one small feat this week, sweeping a three game series from their hated rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals - and in St. Louis, no less. This puts the Cards eight games behind division-leading Cincinnati with 16 games left to play.

The Fat Lady hasn't sung yet, but she's practicing her scales...

Hello Again

It is embarrassing how long it's been since I posted here - 1,058 days to be exact. Bad Addison!

But thanks to my friend Susan, who has a blog of her own, I have been encouraged to dip my virtual pen in the inkwell once more.

More soon; just wanted to clear my throat and say hi.
